Volunteers - vital for delivering quality care in the community

Whatever your skills and experience, and however much time you can offer, we have a volunteering opportunity for you. You’ll get support and training if you need it, and you'll make a real difference. Currently we are looking for volunteers in all of the areas below. If you have other skills and ideas you want to contribute we'd still love to hear from you!

Initially, when the request was made for volunteers, I was anxious & pleased to be able to help, as the work done by the Centre is vital & must be maintained. It is a great experience to be involved & made to feel so much part of the team & a pleasure to be with those who attend. I feel I gain more than I give

Helen, Volunteer

Lunch

Could you help people when they arrive at and/or leave for Lunch at the Assynt Centre? This can be physically demanding and volunteers need to be able to and comfortable with supporting individuals in wheelchairs as well as providing some physical assistance for those who have mobility difficulties. Help also needed for lunch preparations and serving.

Transport

Drivers needed for our Centre Minibus, picking up and dropping back client users attending the wellbeing-hub from all areas of Assynt. Full training provided – suits best those who have experience & confidence driving larger vehicles on rural roads. Occasionally we also look for volunteers using their own vehicles to help with transport emergencies.

Escorting

We are always looking for volunteers to travel on the Centre bus as escorts, both for the regular journeys to drive service users to the wellbeing-hub & activities, as well as for occasional social outings. Sometimes we also need help to accompany individuals to appointments in the village, either on the Centre bus or using their own transport.

Activities

Always needed are volunteers willing to share or demonstrate arts & crafts activities. Our service users love both participating and watching local arts & crafts people creating their work. Sessions usually take place in the afternoons. We welcome one-off visits but also need volunteers supporting our creative activities on an ongoing basis.

Talks

Have you got a tale to tell or experience to share and would you be willing to come in for a talk or presentation in the afternoon? One afternoon a week is usually dedicated to such activities and we are always looking for new contributors. With many of our service users being restricted in exploring the world bringing the world to them is vital!

Music

Can you sing, or play an instrument and would you be willing to perform for our service users? Music is one of the most beneficial social activities for older people and is extremely popular and much appreciated in the Assynt Centre.

Admin

Often overlooked is the amount of admin required in a charity like ours. If you can spare the odd hour to help with filing, basic correspondence and book-keeping please let us know! This behind-the-scenes help is vital to free up staff time for direct work with service users.

Micro-Volunteering

Often we need help with certain tasks, which could be researching matters online, collating or sending out info, helping with an IT matter etc – these tasks usually take less than an hour and can often be done (online) from home. Voluntary help with such tasks can free up valuable time for our staff who can then focus on the more advanced care we offer at the Assynt Centre.

Working Groups

We have several exciting projects in the pipeline and are looking for short- and medium-term support in getting projects started and under-way. Let us know if you can help!
